Fugro GRL, the leading European developer of subsea simulator and visualisation systems, has appointed Simon Marr as Business Development Manager. Simon’s principal responsibility will be growing FGRL’s sales of software and services and extending awareness in the subsea community of the engineering and operational benefits of simulation technologies.
“Simulation and visualisation systems now provide extremely effective ways of modelling complex subsea interventions, enabling engineers to test the soundness of their ideas and designs earlier in the project resulting in cost savings and safer operations offshore,” said Simon Marr. “FGRL is at the forefront of developments making this an exciting place to work in subsea simulation.”
Simon Marr hails from Edinburgh and graduated in 1991 with a BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Communication Engineering from the city's Napier University. He has worked in the Oil and Gas industry for over 10 years and has a technical background in real-time process control, diagnostic monitoring and visualisation systems. He has considerable experience in subsea simulation, having worked with the University of Limerick's Mobile and Marine Robotics Research Centre helping to bring their simulation and visualisation products to market. Prior to joining FGRL he was Sales Manager at VisualSoft, the subsea digital video and visualisation company.
Dr Jason Tisdall, Managing Director of Fugro GRL said, "We are delighted to have secured Simon's skills and enthusiasm for our growing team. He brings with him a range of subsea and offshore expereince that will benefit both our existing and new customers."
Outside the world of subsea, Simon likes nothing better than a hard day’s cycling and entering ‘cyclo sportifs’ - biking marathons to the rest of us! Simon is married and he and his wife enjoy travelling and hillwalking with friends.
